Currently I'm shouting inside my head. Ack! I caught a cold and have laryngitis again! I don't know why my colds always include laryngitis. Seems like everyone else gets the regular kinds of common colds, sore throats, runny nose, itchy eyes and coughs BUT I get the laryngitis. I don't understand...? Laryngitis can and does last up to two weeks! I have a job that requires talking. I cannot afford to call in sick. Thank goodness it's Friday today. At least I'll try to have a non-talking weekend. Next week will be a short week due to Thanksgiving and hopefully, I'll be much better by then. It's so frustrating because I don't want to miss any of the festivities by being sick. |

Look what the difference a brightly colored blouse makes to this outfit versus the original gray color that I was going to wear.

I've had the turquoise blouse in my closet and I just remembered it at the last minute while I was dressing for work. It matches the {Styled} by Tori necklace perfectly!

We're making these foam art doorhangers this week. I tried to find a Fall and/or Thanksgiving project but nothing appealed to me. I'm going the hybrid Fall - ish project route. The flip side of the doorhanger has their name in foam letters. The foam leaves are embellished with faux plastic jewels and possibly some glitter glue.

I also started crocheting on two shawls using familiar memorized patterns. The Elise Shawl and another variation of the CoCo Bay Shawl started this morning before work. These patterns are so fast that they will be finished before Thanksgiving.

There are a few knitted techniques that bring me more joy than seems possible. Top down, seamless, raglan knitting is one of my favorite ways of knitting clothing. I have tried knitting separate pieces before but I wasn't satisfied with the final results. Almost all of the top down projects that I've completed have been successes. Recently added to my closet is the Top Down Button Front Capelet. The pattern is Free from Bernat.
I used Patons Shetland Chunky Tweeds in Earthy Brown. I love the feel of the yarn and the way it knits up so quickly. I will wear this.

Veteran's Day is honored today although the actual holiday was yesterday. Many national offices and services are closed however, my workplace is not one of those and I will be working.
I'm debuting the Open Cardigan and this is how I'll be wearing it along with long dark pants. My favorite Old Navy long sleeve blouse sort of gapes open at the neckline so I'm hoping the {Styled} by Tori necklace will keep the blouse from being inappropriate. I always wear the blouse untucked so it'll hang out from under the cardigan. Seeing the ensemble on the hanger makes it look so much like a "Mom" outfit and I hope it doesn't come off as a dud. Not that there's anything wrong with being a Mom, it's just a moniker that gets a bad rap.

Meanwhile, I knit & knit all weekend and the capelet is looking good. I'm knitting the front buttonband ribbings.

There is just enough drape and the length is perfect, so it doesn't overwhelm the wearer.

The yarn is so soft and the 25% wool content should be just right for our mild Fall/Winter. It's around 60º here and clear bright skies with a slight breeze.

Sorry Edna (The Incredibles) but I'm currently mesmerized by capes and/or ponchos. It's Fall/Winter and I'm excited to wear heavier outerwear including capes/ponchos. I've had a Bernat (free) pattern in my binder for awhile and I briefly debated with myself whether or not to make it because I wasn't convinced that I would actually wear a cape/poncho. I have made a couple of other ponchos in the past, including the Martha Stewart (coming out of Jail) poncho and another light weight hemp poncho that I had to make after seeing it on Wendy Bernard Tan (Knit & Tonic).

As you can see in the photos that I went ahead and cast on for the Top Down Button Front Capelet by Bernat. There were a few key points in the self-proposed debate including:
PRO
1) It's knit top down.
2) It's a seamless, raglan.
3) It's got a collar.
4) It has a button closure.
5) No Underarm sleeve seams.
6) It has 2x2 ribbing.
7) It's fast to knit.
8) It's easy to knit.
9) It's not a shawl. (Not that there's anything wrong with shawls.)
CON
1) It's a capelet, cape, poncho.
2) I never know what type of purse to carry while wearing a cape, poncho. Does the shoulder strap go underneath the cape/poncho, over it, or crossbody over - under.
3) If a celebrity isn't wearing a cape/poncho, is it a fashion faux pas to want to wear a capelet.

It's not finished and it's not knit in beige, off white, cream, white, vanilla or natural.

Although this is a Bernat pattern, I'm using Patons Shetland Chunky Tweeds - Earthy Brown. It is 25% wool, 75% acrylic and 3% viscosé.

Fresh Off The Needles.

Finished with pattern #294 Summer Open Cardigan from Knitting Pure and Simple.
I made this in wool and I think it's going to be awesome for our Fall, early Winter months.
I love versatile layering options and this pattern was so easy and fast that I can imagine making it over again in other colors. This makes it the second time that I've used this pattern and both times I chose neutral colors. I'm going to be more bold in my yarn color choices next time.

I kept the sleeves at elbow length and it'll be less bulky to wear it under a coat if necessary.

Cardigan Style

The neckline ribbing is finished but the ends haven't been woven in just yet.

This cardigan is going to be fun to wear and pair up with so many tops. Since I made it in wool I'm looking forward to trying it with sleeveless tops and tanks all Fall and Winter long. This will stretch my clothing options a lot. Keeping my fingers crossed. Sometimes when I finish projects the concepts were more fun to imagine than the actual item.

I will make elbow length sleeves. Just enough to wear short sleeve blouses/tops underneath and not having the sleeves peeking out under the cardigan. The overall length of the body of the cardigan is at my waist and most of my tops/blouses will be longer than the cardigan. Hopefully, it''l be the right style option. I have lots of longer length cardigans already in the closet and I figured that I'd try the shorter cardigan style this season.

Top Down, Seamless, Raglan Knitting

I love this type of knitting and am happy that I'm able to wear this style. The Open Cardigan is coming along so quickly with just a few nights of knitting. I'm working on the bottom ribbing now and the neckline will be next.

I went with a neutral color (Aran Tweed) of Patons Classic Wool.

I have outgrown the Jr. size mannequin but I'm not ready to invest in a new mannequin just yet. I'm only using the mannequin for modeling projects and not as a fitting guide.

The Elise Shawl is finished!

It took about 400 yards of the Lion Brand Magic Stripes (1.25 skeins) and I omitted the edging.
I'm going to look for more self striping sock yarns in the stash to begin more of these shawls. Even without the edging the Elise pattern is a winner. I didn't do the edging because I'm not fond of picots.

While listening/watching the U.S. Presidential election results I continued to knit on the Open Cardigan.

This is turning out really nice.

I joined the underarms and the rest of the body of the cardigan will go even faster.

The Open Cardigan is coming along just fine. I love the seamless, top down raglan patterns.

The lines of the raglan are taking shape and I enjoy the process so much.

Every few rows of knitting the cardigan I stop and work on the crocheted Elise Shawl. It's fun to alternate the two projects as it keeps my mind active by switching from Knit to crochet or vice versa. Usually, I'm a one project at a time person but lately I've been restless and am excited to start more projects. I think I am returning to life.
