Ooh, another free, easy, quick crocheted shawl pattern...Chèche à la Sauce is in progress.  I just started this shawl last night!  I like this pattern because it has three sections and each one can be easily adjusted for additional width/length.  It was originally written in French and loosely translated means saucy scarf/shawl.

  • Addendum - 10th year

Whoa...hold those horses.  I just realized that by the end of 2013 this blog will be 10 years old.  However, the archives only go back to Dec. 2005 due to the fact that I deleted the first two years. If only it were that easy to "erase" all the bad parts in life.

  • Zig Zag Shells

Zig Zag Shells...this is what life feels like for me every day.

The free pattern is designed by Dot Matthews.  I used 2.25 skeins of Simply Soft - Persimmon and size J hook.

  • Wish Upon A Star

This small jar is filled with my latest attempts at making origami stars.  I've seen larger jars of these stars for sale and I've always been intrigued but thought that the origami would be too hard.  I'm not good at origami in general.  Those popular cranes still stump me every time.

Anyway, when my late husband was in the hospital he received a basket full of things to do from my sister-in-law and a Klutz mini origami star kit was one of the goodies.

I must admit that origami stars are addicting to make. There is a learning curve and that's part of the intrigue because you want to keep making them to get the perfect stars.

This is the beginning of the Zig Zag Shell Stole pattern by Dot Matthews.

Love the rain, love the late start Thursdays!

A finished To The Point shawl and yes, I did goof-up on that thick part smack in the middle of the mesh portion.  It is not noticeable when the shawl is worn.

I like this pattern a lot and may start another one soon.  I lengthened the shawl by increasing until the petals were 13 stitches wide.  This pattern used every single inch of 3 skeins of Caron Simply Soft - Iris and I had to do the last two rows in Caron One Pound - Iris.  Thank goodness both yarns from the same company had the same date stamp and were the same color. The big difference is the texture between Simply Soft and One Pound.  Size J hook.

I tried to lengthen the To The Point shawl and I thought that I followed the modifications however, I messed it all up.

What I love about knowing how to crochet is that it's relatively easy for me to correct my own errors.  There is nothing wrong with the pattern as it is written however, I wanted it to be longer.

Making modifications in patterns often requires rethinking the design a bit.  All of the original row counts would no longer apply and I had to pay attention to where to decrease and increase in order for the design to come out correctly.

After a bit of tweaking and redoing a couple of times, I think I've got it to the right length.  I have noticed that Caron Simply Soft doesn't like to be ripped out because it fuzzes up.  I want the shawl to look new so I'm not going to mess with the yarn anymore and the shawl will be finished soon.

  • Three Day Weekend!

It's a three day weekend for me.  Not everyone gets Martin Luther King, Jr. Day off as a holiday but since I do I'm taking advantage of it.  I'll be back to post on Tuesday.  See ya later...

  • Cold Snap Ends-Warming Trend Ahead

The temps are hovering around mid 70s and 80s which makes this handsewn felt sunglass case an appropriate project.  I'm pleased when the project ideas just fall into place with little stress.  Using supplies on hand and about 45 minutes assembly time I'm hoping it will be a success with the others. Everyone will get their choice of colors and styles of sunglasses to personalize their cases. I hand stitched each piece together but I'm going to let them use fabric glue for the sunglass parts and only have them hand stitch the case together.
